  Is this the best fish and chip shop in the country? In my opinion an emphatic YES. The food is freshly cooked, and always delicious. When ever I'm on my way back home from "down South" it is the obligatory stop. Parking can be an absolute nightmare, as it is on the main A6 and has double yellow lines that are enforced on a regular basis right outside. However, there is a large car park opposite on the retail park.
  
  The fish is brilliant, the homemade deepfill pies are gorgeous yumminess themselves. The Chilli con Carne has a subtle spice, but is very tasty. Chips are always fresh, never sat around for an age like some chip shops. They offer two types of curry sauce, chip shop style and chinese style, both of which are delicious. Two sizes of bread roll are available. which are always very fresh.
  
  Staff are always very friendly, and although it can get very busy at peak times they never stop wearing a smile. I've seen and been stood in queues that go round the corner, but for the best traditional Chip shop food in the country it's worth the wait. On the plus side they now take debit and credit cards for payment. (Which is fantastic, when you've been driving for a couple hundred miles on the motorway and haven't stopped to get some cash...) It is worth the detour from the busy M6 motorway for a tasty bite to eat.
